Patron shoots bar bandit

Three armed bandits got more than they bargained for when they went to rob a bar in Marabella and were fired upon by one of the patrons. The frightened bandits ended up running away empty-handed. Two of the bandits were reportedly injured. One was later arrested by police at Princes Town District Hospital where he went to seek medical attention. The drama unfolded around 11 pm on Friday while three patrons were liming at Trivia Bar, at Union Road, Marabella. Reports stated that three men armed with two cutlasses and a gun stormed into the bar and announced a hold-up. The bandits ordered the patrons and the bar attendants to lie on the floor and remove their cash and valuables. The cutlass-wielding men subsequently began planassing the patrons.


While this was taking place, a patron drew his licensed firearm and fired five rounds at the bandits. The startled bandits scampered out of the bar. Some time later, a man went to the Point Fortin Area Hospital seeking medical attention for a gunshot wound in the area of  his rib cage. The hospital staff immediately contacted the police who subsequently arrested the  second suspect. The injured man denied he was involved in a robbery. He told police that he was in Piparo when a man jumped out of a car and shot him. The suspect was transferred to the San Fernando General Hospital where he is warded under police guard.
