Soldier shot twice in Chaguanas


A 30-year-old soldier attached to Camp Ogden in St James was shot twice on his right shoulder and arm after he was accosted by two men who attempted to rob him on Saturday at Bhagna Trace, Chase Village, Chaguanas.


According to a police report, Khali Alexis, of Woodpecker Drive, Edingburgh 500, Chaguanas was near the Santa Maria Hotel in Bhagna Trace at about 3 am when he was confronted by two men, one armed with a gun.


The report stated that the men attempted to rob Alexis who resisted and was shot twice; one bullet penetrated the shoulder and the other, his elbow.


The men, the report said, subsequently ran to a nearby parked B14 Nissan Sentra and sped off to the Chase Village Flyover.


Upon reaching the vicinity of the Globe City Hardware, the report said the suspects intercepted a Mazda 323 PAU 3507.


The men reportedly jumped out of the B14 and pulled the driver out of the Mazda. The two men entered the latter vehicle and sped off.


Alexis was rushed to the Chaguanas Health Facility and then transferred to the Port of Spain General Hospital where he was treated and warded in a stable condition.


Cpl Remy, PCs Ramsubhag and Noyan of the Freeport Police Station are continuing investigations.
