Colour, pageantry at Chaguanas Indian Arrival Day parade
THE sun shone brightly for most of the day yesterday as thousands of East Indians came out to celebrate and/or witness celebrations marking the 160th anniversary of the arrival of the country’s first batch of East Indian labourers on the Fatel Rozack. Throughout Trinidad, colourful parades and street processions were held in honour of the ancestors of the East Indian community.
Newsday photographer Sureash Cholai was on hand in Chaguanas during the staging of a large street parade and the re-enactment of the arrival of the Fatel Rozack. The parade organised by the National Council of Indian Culture (NCIC) began on the Chaguanas Main Road and ended at the Divali Nagar site.
