Boy, 13, shot dead at home
A 13-year-old Laventille primary school student was yesterday shot dead at his home. Dead is Akil Mills of 16 Picton Road, Laventille. According to reports, the boy’s cousin Cindy Mills told police she left Akil downstairs eating, and went upstairs around 4.20 pm. Akil had just returned from school. While bathing, she heard what sounded like a gunshot. She rushed downstairs and found Akil bleeding from a gunshot wound under his neck. She called her boyfriend Mayon LaChapelle, 19, who rushed Akil to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he died. When Newsday visited the scene, police had recovered one spent shell, but no gun. Two teenagers are currently assisting police with enquiries. Visiting the scene were Insp Singh and Sgt Barrington. Sgt Barrington is continuing investigations.
