Prisons boss: Panday in good spirits

PRISONS COMMISSIONER John Rougier said yesterday that Opposition Leader Basdeo Panday is in good spirits and is receiving daily medical checks.

Rougier said he has been visiting Panday every day to ensure that he is well. According to the prisons boss, the Opposition Leader, who has a heart problem, has been receiving his medical check-ups and his special diet is provided by his family.

"He is in good spirits and safe," said Rougier. Panday did not have any visitors yesterday because visits to prisoners by their relatives are not allowed on weekends.

Only counsellors and priests from the various religious bodies are allowed to visit on weekends.

However, Panday was visited by a prison doctor and received meals prepared by his wife Oma. He spent most of the day reading in the infirmary of the prison.
