Ann-Marie is CEPEP’s Monarch

ANN-MARIE DANIEL, a CEPEP worker of Maracas, St Joseph, was judged the winner from among 12 finalists at Friday night’s SWMCOL (CEPEP) World Environment Day Calypso Competition, 2005 at the Grand Stand, Queen’s Park Savannah. Singing at number eight and dressed all in white, Daniel who works for the CEPEP company Dockland Ltd, sang “Count The Cost” a song about the final cost of our failure to preserve the environment, the trees, the animals and the natural surroundings. Last year’s winner was Brian Taitt,  contractor and manager of Dockland.


Daniel, a talented singer, comes from a musical family, her father, a former musician with a band of the ’60s era, Night Winds Rebellion. About her victory in the competition,  Daniel stated, “I’ve always wanted to enter and win a competition where my vocal ability could be showcased and I achieved it tonight.” In second position was David Basedan, “Swiper”  of  GAP Environmental Experts Company Limited of Fyzabad, who sang “Environmentally Friendly” and third was Joseph Luces “Mickey and the Foes,” of Maximum Environmental and Maintenance Services of Maloney,  singing “Enhancement.” Fourth was “Empress Blacks” Claudine Jackson of Tunapuna who sang “Environmental  Solution.”


Representing Tobago was  Preston Trim  “Soca Man” of the Tobago House of Assembly with his rendition, “CEPEP large and in Charge.” On hand to present prizes and congratulate the winners was Minister Eddie Hart who exhorted representatives of CEPEP companies present “to continue the work in defence of the environment.” Also present were Minister of Sport, Roger Boynes, executive chairman of SWMCOL, Ray Brathwaite and  Kwesi Atiba, programme manager, CEPEP.
