Labourer stabbed to death at Anchorage fete

AN argument over a girl led to the stabbing death of a 22-year-old man at a fete held at the Anchorage nightclub early yesterday morning. Leandro Blackman, a 22-year old labourer of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry Division, succumbed to the stab wound at 7 am yesterday. His murder is the 150th for the year so far. Reports revealed that around 1 am yesterday, Blackman was liming with a group of friends at Anchorage in Chaguaramas when he had an altercation with a man over a scantily-clad girl. Reports revealed that the man pulled out a knife and stabbed Blackman once in the chest. The killer escaped. As he slumped to the ground, police officers who were on duty at the fete alerted EHS employees.

Blackman was taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he died at around 7 am. At Mercer Road, Diego Martin where Blackman lived, his father said that he was unsure how his son was killed and added that he could not provide any details. An eyewitness to the stabbing death told Newsday that he attended the fete with Blackman and a group of friends. He said that the patrons of the fete attended on the condition that no underwear was allowed. At around midnight, Blackman reportedly had an argument with another man.

Around 1 am, the argument started again and the man reportedly took out a knife and stabbed Blackman once in the chest.  The eyewitness accused the police of dragging their feet in alerting the EHS ambulance. He added that he and his friends were prevented from rendering any assistance to Blackman because the police cordoned off the area and took control of the situation. “Them police and them tell us that more of us will die like Blackman,” said the eyewitness who preferred not to be identified. An autopsy will be carried out today at the Forensic Science Centre. Investigations are continuing by the Carenage police.
