FBI agents on jeweller son’s kidnapping
THE Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) agents have teamed up with members of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad (AKS) to investigate last Saturday’s kidnapping of 24-year-old Amit Mohan. However, the AKS remained tight-lipped yesterday, not confirming or denying the presence of FBI agents in the country to solve the kidnapping of the son of the owner of Priya’s Creation from their West Coast Drive home in Gulf View, La Romaine. Amit, 24, son of businessman Inchan Mohan, has been held by the abductors for six days. The kidnappers are demanding $5 million for his safe release. Amit’s cousin, Veedesh, 20, a United States citizen, was also kidnapped but released early Wednesday morning along the Mosquito Creek after he was shot in the hip.
Public relations officer at Police Headquarters in Port-of-Spain, Ann Marie Grant, told Newsday yesterday that FBI agents had been assisting AKS police officers with the kidnapping because of Veedesh’s US citizenship. “But I’m not sure whether they’re still involved in the investigations,” Grant said. Newsday learnt, however, that the FBI agents have passed on vital information to the AKS members regarding the kidnapping. Amit and cousin Veedesh were kidnapped from Amit’s West Coast Drive home on Saturday night.
Family members continue to remain tight-lipped and shield Veedesh from the public. When Newsday visited the home yesterday, a notice on the front gate stated: “Please understand only immediate family members allowed for security reasons.” A female relative shrugged off reporters in a stern manner. She said, “We’re not talking to the media. You all do not understand that!” Veedesh, who was hospitalised for the gunshot injury, has since been released. Two suspects who were held after Veedesh’s release are no longer being detained by police.
