Fire damages Couva apartment building
AN APARTMENT building in Couva was partially destroyed in a Thursday night fire which left an estimated $175,000 damage to its roof. Around 8 pm, a police report stated that neighbours saw smoke coming from the back of the roof of the concrete one-storey building at Edgar Street, Couva.
Fire officials from the Couva Fire Station responded, but when they arrived on the scene, the entire roof of the building belonging to Shaide Khan, 44, of Victoria Drive, Phase 5, Roystonia, was already engulfed in flames. No one was hurt in the blaze. Khan said the fire started on the roof of the building which was completely destroyed. The walls of the apartment building were cracked, Khan said. Firemen were unable to say how the fire started yesterday. Cpl Mohammed of the Couva Police Station is investigating.
