Folk Fair Pageant falls flat
THE 2005 edition of the Folk Fair Queen show at the Grand Stand, Queen’s Park Savannah, was a five-hour presentation which included ceremonial offerings and community talent. However, it fell far short of the entertaining package offered in 2004. Last year’s decision to turn the judging of Miss Folk Fair into a pageant went down well with the public and the inclusion of the first ever talent contest for men called Papa Rabat was a hit which complemented the queen show. This year, however, the producers crammed other competitive items into the event. Drumology, folk and chutney dances, as well as a premiere of the Madame Blondelle were added, but failed to add entertainment value to the production. In addition the show, which started just after 8 pm and ended after 1.30 am, was plagued by clumsy stage management, technical glitches and under prepared delegates and contestants. Activities marking Folk Fair weekend continued yesterday with Junior Best Village. Today there will be a presentation of food, fashion and entertainment.
