Cops seize guns, drugs, ammo in the Beetham
THREE firearms and a quantity of ammunition and marijuana were seized, and three persons arrested in separate incidents in Beetham Gardens and in Malick, Barataria. According to reports, officers of the Besson Street Police Station and the Port-of-Spain CID, under Insp Sahadeo Singh, went to a house at 14th Street, Beetham Gardens, around 11 am yesterday. Armed with a search warrant, the offers found two 9 mm revolvers, three rounds of live ammunition and 400 grammes of wrapped marijuana. A 30-year-old woman was arrested. Around 9.30 pm on Tuesday, officers of the North-Eastern Division Task Force, under Cpl La Pierre, and including PCs Mundo, Chinking and Acres, were on patrol at Upper Seventh Avenue in Malick, Barataria when they saw two men acting suspiciously. The men, aged 19 and 20 of Malick, were searched and a .380 revolver with three live rounds of ammunition was found. The men, who are suspects in many robberies in the area, yesterday appeared before several identification parades. All three are expected to appear before Port-of-Spain magistrates today charged with possession of the firearm and ammunition, and drugs. In an unrelated matter, a 27-year-old Maloney man who was hospitalised in an unconscious state a week ago after swallowing 92 heroin pellets is still warded at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital under police guard. He has excreted 59 of the pellets which were ingested when confronted by Organised Crime and Narcotic Unit officers at Piarco International Airport. The drugs are valued at $1 million.
