Agreement reached on Breakfast Shed impasse
From next Monday, the Urban Development Corporation of TT Limited (UDeCOTT) will start paying out the relocation package to five of the 15 women of the Breakfast Shed after an agreement was reached with the women’s representative, the Femmes du Chalet Cooperative. A release yesterday stated that on April 7 this year, a statement indicated that out of the 15 women who own stalls at the Breakfast Shed, five initially decided to take up the relocation package, while the other ten opted to remain. “The women have elected to accept a relocation package amounting to $100,000, or for those who wish to take up residence in the new breakfast shed, they will continue their business at the old site until work on the new structure is completed,” UDeCOTT said in the release.
They highlighted that the women who were moving to the new site will not lose any days of business due to construction or any other issues. The corporation stated that three of the women who accepted the relocation package have chosen to attempt to renegotiate. “However, the situation remains as follows — There never was an agreement to pay the sum of $300,000 as alleged by Kenneth Munroe-Brown. Agreement was reached with the Femmes du Chalet Cooperative to pay the amount of $100,000 per stall on leaving the Breakfast Shed and the Femmes du Chalet has always agreed that Mr Munroe-Brown must and should be paid, however, their concern has been the figure which was proffered for services rendered,” UDeCOTT stated.
