HALLIBURTON employee, Robert Armour, 54, of Cocoyea, San Fernando, died instantly on Thursday night when the car in which he was travelling collided with another vehicle at Bamboo Junction in La Romaine. Two of the seven were warded at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the San Fernando General Hospital (SFGH) in critical condition up to yesterday. According to reports, Daren Marcell, 26, of Broomage Road, Princes Town, was driving his taxi along the South Trunk Road, La Romaine, around 11.15 pm. On reaching the traffic lights at Bamboo Village intersection, the taxi collided with a white B14 Nissan Sentra, driven by Lennox Pilgrim. Pilgrim, 50, of Forest Avenue, Cocoyea, the report stated, was heading in an easterly direction along the South Trunk Road. Pilgrim’s children, Akiel, 14, and Hafeeza, 13, were in the car. Police said Armour, of St Andrew’s Avenue, Cocoyea, was seated in the front passenger seat of Pilgrim’s vehicle. In Marcell’s taxi were four passengers — Narisha Thomas, a 20-year-old chef, and her 4-year-old daughter, Nafeesha Sanderson; Melissa Thomas, 22, a proprietor of Delhi Road, Fyzabad and another man who was not identified.
The unidentified man and Narisha, were up to yesterday warded in critical condition in ICU. Armour died instantly. Fire officials of the Mon Repos Fire Station arrived on the scene moments after the accident and used a hydraulic cutting machine known as the “Jaws of Life” to cut Armour’s body from the wreckage. The District Medical Officer ordered the removal of Armour’s body to the Forensic Sciences Complex for an autopsy. The seven injured persons were all rushed to the San Fernando General Hospital via the three emergency ambulances which arrived on the scene.
