TTEC: All emergency procedures in place
Following confirmation about the Tropical storm warning yesterday, the Trinidad and tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) in a statement said all emergency procedures were being put in place by utilities and service agencies as directed by the Minister of Public Utilities and the Environment, Pennelope Beckles. T&TEC advised citizens to exercise precautionary measures prior to a storm or hurricane. These measures include: Keeping a radio or television available for the latest weather service warning and advisories. If power fails, use a battery powered radio or car radio. Plan ahead for possible evacuation to higher ground or a safe haven. Do not wait until the last minute or you might be marooned. Leave beaches or low-lying areas that may be swept by high tides. Board up windows, protect glass panes with storm shutters, tape or ply. Secure outdoor objects that might be blown away. Store drinking water, tin supplies and dry goods as water may be contaminated after a flood.Keep your car fuelled. Unless advised to evacuate, stay indoors or at home. Follow the instructions and advice of local authorities. Travel with care, secure children, pets and use common sense to ensure the safety and security of your family and loved ones. Seek shelter in stormy weather conditions. Lightning can strike before rains actually arrive. Be cautious when handling electrical items and stay away from the Commission’s equipment, substations and overhead and fallen lines. In the event power fails, call 625-1296 (North), 636-8107 (Central), 643-1974 (East), 657-7281-4 (South) and 639-2015/2541-2 in Tobago.
