Cops arrest three bandits
THREE men suspected in a series of robberies over the past week were held on Friday night with loaded firearms and a cutlass and driving a suspected stolen car, police said yesterday. The men were held after a high-speed police chase around 10 pm at Rushworth Street, San Fernando, driving what police believe is a stolen car. According to reports, police received a report of a robbery at Hunt Street, Siparia, where two women were robbed of more than $3,000 cash and jewellery.
An All-Points Bulletin was issued for a Nissan Almera, and around 10 pm police spotted the car and intercepted it at an intersection at Rushworth Street, San Fernando. Police arrested three men and seized two revolvers, ammunition and a cutlass which were lying on the back seat. Sgt Williams of the Mon Repos police and PC Boodlal of Siparia CID is continuing investigations. Meanwhile, Ste Madeleine police are searching for two men who robbed a taxi driver and stabbed a female passenger on Friday night. According to police reports, taxi driver Moti Saroop, 38, was plying his car for hire when he picked up the men on Coffee Street, San Fernando and they requested to be taken to Ste Madeleine.
However, upon reaching a tasker road near the Usine Ste Madeleine sugar factory the two men announced a hold up, with one of them placing a knife at the driver’s throat. The assailants robbed Saroop of $200 and stabbed a female passenger, Jocelyn Henry, 34, in her shoulder. The attackers threw Saroop and Henry out of the vehicle and sped off. Henry sought assistance from security guards on duty at the Sugar Manufacturing company, and contacted the police. Henry was taken for medical treatment at the Princes Town Medical Centre, and was later discharged. Cpl Livia is continuing investigations.
