Talk show hosts and people are happy go lucky

THE EDITOR: The cowardly act by the person or persons of July 11 which left over 12 persons injured shows that Trinidad and Tobago is vulnerable to any acts of violence or terrorism as we see taking place elsewhere. We know for a fact that our intelligence agencies are never alert. We know also that the leader of the attempted coup of July, 1990 has free access to the length and breath of Trinidad and Tobago. He and his cohorts also have access to members of government, government offices, national security buildings, VIP seats, areas of essential services, oil industry compound, air and sea ports and even the priority bus route. He even appears regularly on the electronic media as a guest.

The security at the Air and Sea ports do not enforce any of the National Security measures. The local Police operate by vaps. So what protection does this country have. None! You continue to hear the pitiful utterances of fanaticism by radio talk show hosts especially Anil Roberts. He was bent on humiliating Dr Fuad Khan for what was a typographical error in a press release that ended with the member of parliament cutting short the nonsensical enquiry. When you have people of such quality encouraging people of like political affiliation to live a lie and to converse in dumbness then you can expect anything to happen here anytime.

Those that pass for leaders leave a great deal to be desired. You have them saying that the attempted coup of 1990 was a result of the policies of the then government and he goes unscathed. Then you have another telling his people that they are on top of security awareness as there is in place a reliable security net over Trinidad and Tobago. He must remember that even mosquitoes suck your blood through the best of nets. Sorry to say but the attitude of the people of this country is too happy go lucky. Almost everyone is a “breds or a sister”, a neighbour or a friend’s friend, a foot soldier or a colleague’s liming partner, a party symbol collector/distributor or an after meetings helper.

So who is guarding the guards, who is to offer information on who. Politicians are laughing at each other just as they did in 1990. Supporters blaming those on opposite sides and businessmen telling you to come and shop there is no need to panic just so they can maintain their profit margin. Yeh doe worry, be happy. Imagine a radio show host suggesting that probably someone bought something and was unhappy which could have caused him to act stupidly. Who is stupid here? The person/persons should be held and brought to justice but then again there was 1970 and 1990! No justice!
