Don’t quit yet

MORE than 30 employees who may be planning to quit after serving faithfully with the Community Develop-ment Division (St George West) of the Ministry of Community Development, Culture and Gender Affairs, have been advised to wait awhile.

"You can’t leave just yet, there is work still to be done, and we still need you, so please stay on," Minister, Joan Yuille-Williams said to potential retirees last Monday night at the Cascadia Hotel.

She was at the time addressing an awards function for employees for their dedicated years of service.

While noting that there were young replacements, the minister said it was still necessary for them to be prepared.

In somewhat fervent terms Yuille-Williams told the employees that they could not just "pass the baton and walk."

She explained that the economy was buoyant, and the Government was in a position to facilitate them.

She called on the community leaders to support village councils and to work with them.

The minister disclosed that the refurbishment of community centres was continuing and there were plans to build some 100 more throughout the country. But she made it clear that these centres were for the people, and they must be allowed to make constructive use of them.

In other words "Use them in the right way," she added.

The deputy mayor of Port-of-Spain, Rishi Lakhan, in a short address, told the honourees that their service mattered a lot, and the nation needed more people like them.
