Three in court on $36M drug charge
TWO Venezuelans and a Trinidadian who were charged with possession of heroin for the purpose of trafficking after Wednesday’s $36 million drug bust by police and Coast Guard in Cedros, were yesterday denied bail by a magistrate in the Point Fortin court. Venezuelans Yldemaro Britto, 30, of Avpaezel, Paraiso Quito, Yaubel, Caracas; and William Linares, 41, of Liapaeclo, Suvere, Caracas; and Trinidadian Yuran Rambir, 31, of Fullerton Village, Cedros, were taken to the Point Fortin Magistrates’ Court at 10:30 am to answer several charges. Senior Magistrate Herbert Charles read three charges against each of the three — possession of heroin for the purpose of trafficking, importation of illicit drugs and concealment of the drug. Charles did not call on the trio to plead as the charges were laid indictably. The arrest of the three stemmed from Wednesday’s heroin drug bust off the coast of Cedros during a joint interdiction exercise of the Special Anti-crime Unit and Customs and Excise Division on the south-western peninsula of Cedros and Icacos. Attorney Frank Seepersad, who represented the three accused men, asked the magistrate for bail for the trio. However, police prosecutor Sgt Pardasie objected on the ground that the men had to be traced for any previous criminal record. Charles upheld the objection and reman-ded the Venezuelans and Rambir, a fisherman, into custody. The matter was adjourned to August 16.
