Ex-cop quizzed in teen’s murder

An ex-police officer remained in police custody yesterday as part of the investigation into the stabbing death of 19-year-old Caparo restaurant worker Keisha Thornhill.

The 35-year-old suspect was interrogated at the Couva Police Station yesterday by homicide officers.

Investigators returned to Carlsen Field yesterday to carry out a search for the murder weapon, but it was not found.

Thornhill, left her workplace on Thursday afternoon but never made it to her Caparo home.

Her mother Gemma told Sunday Newsday that when her daughter failed to show up she became worried and could not sleep. She kept vigil over the Caparo Main Road hoping to see her daughter. On Friday, she was told the shocking news that the body of her daughter was found in some bushes at Carlsen Field. The mother of eight said that Keisha was a good person and recently ended a relationship with a man.

She added that her daughter had a lot of plans for the future and was trying to secure a driver’s permit.

On Friday, shortly after the discovery of the body, homicide officers detained the former police officer. The man is yet to give a statement to investigators.
