Mom’s body found in latrine, son’s floating in river
THE DECOMPOSED body of a two-year-old boy was found floating in a river, and the body of the child’s mother was discovered in a latrine pit at Mayaro, yesterday. The child’s body was first seen by a villager floating in the Ortoire River, Mayaro around 10 am and about five hours later, a villager stumbled on the child’s mother, dumped in the latrine. According to police reports, Ria Ramlochan’s body bore several stab wounds and it appeared that her child had been struck on the head. Ramlochan lived with her son, Ishmael Ragbir, in a one-bedroom shack, at Solomon Street, Mayaro. When Ishmael’s body was discovered, police went to Solomon Street and found his mother’s partially clothed body, covered with wounds. Ramlochan, police said, did odd jobs in the neighbourhood, and had been a loner. She had male friends visiting from time to time. Recently she had written a letter to a male relative seeking a separation. Police up to late last night were looking for the man.
