Two killed in Cocorite crash


A 19-year-old Westmoorings man became the country’s 117th road fatality for the year when the car in which he was a passenger crashed into another vehicle around 11.30 pm on Friday.


Christopher Vaughn, of Arawak Towers, Westmoorings was seated in vehicle PAX 7103, proceeding east along the Western Main Road, when on reaching the Cocorite flyover, the driver of the car lost control of his vehicle.


The car ran off the roadway and crashed into a car driven by Brandon Henry which was proceeding east.


PAX 7103 landed on top of Henry’s car.


Late yesterday, Tamara Sheppard, 20, a passenger in Henry’s car died at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital.


She suffered massive head injuries and died during an emergency operation and became the country’s 118th road fatality victim.


Distraught relatives were at the hospital when Sheppard died.


Vaughn who was killed on the spot, also suffered massive head injuries.


Eight persons were rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where they were treated and warded in serious condition.


When Sunday Newsday visited the Arawak Towers, Vaughn’s Westmoorings home security officers at the compound contacted relatives of the dead man through an intercom.


Relatives said that they were not seeing anyone at this time.


Cpl Leacock of the St James Police Station is investigating.
