Minister expecting report this week

LABOUR Minister Danny Montano said he hopes to receive a final report on the investigation into the June 22 explosion aboard the oil tanker Trade Wind Sunrise sometime this week.

Four men were killed in that explosion which occurred while the Panamanian oil tanker was anchored off Chaguaramas.

Preliminary investigations showed maintenance work was taking place on the Trade Wind Sunrise when the incident occurred.

Speaking to reporters at a national consultation on co-operatives at the Chaguaramas Convention Centre last Friday, Montano said he went through an interim report into the explosion with one of the inspectors last week.

The minister indicated that while he was hoping to have received the final report last week, this did not happen. Montano said he hopes to get the final report sometime this week.

The minister also said the Maritime Division of the Ministry of Works and Transport was conducting its own investigation into the explosion and a copy of that report has been submitted to the Labour Ministry.

Montano told reporters the final report which he expects to receive will include the investigations done by the Works and Transport Ministry.
