Inmate escapes from Arouca prison
HEAVILY-armed prison officers accompanied by sniffer dogs conducted a massive search near the Maximum Security Prison in Arouca for an escaped prisoner yesterday. Up to late yesterday, the prisoner, identified as Shawn Hunt, 35, had not been recaptured. Reports revealed that around 9.15 am, Hunt was among a group of other inmates at a garden assigned to prisoners for agricultural farming, when he made a dash for freedom. Officers quickly began searching for Hunt, but he was nowhere to be found. Hunt, of Picton Road, Laventille, is serving two years hard labour for club breaking with intent. He is considered armed and dangerous and anyone with information on Hunt can contact Crime Stoppers, E-999 or any police station. Yesterday, Prisons Commissioner John Rougier said every attempt is being made to apprehend the escaped prisoner. Prison and police officers yesterday joined forces in a bid to recapture Hunt. The search continues today.
