Cops raid homes from Carenage to Morvant
POLICE raided the homes of a number of people associated with recently murdered gang leader Glenroy Charles, better known as "Abdul Malick," between Saturday night and yesterday, but came up empty-handed. Several roadblocks also failed to yield anything. The raids come on the heels of the fatal shooting of Charles, 27, after visiting his girlfriend at Springview Terrace, Petit Valley. According to reports, minutes after the killing, large squads of police were seen in Petit Valley searching homes and conducting roadblocks. Several of the doors of Charles’ associates, who had threatened war at the scene over his killing, were broken down early yesterday morning and throughout the day. After the threats of war, known-gang member Marlon Scott, alias "Froggy," was shot dead as a reprisal outside his Cocorite home. A hit has now been placed on the head of his brother, Junior Scott, alias "Beast" over the Charles murder. Police sources told Newsday that their assault on the area will continue until calm is brought back. The associates accused a gang in the area, which was uneasy with the "shaky peace arrangement," of ordering the hit. Charles, a member of a fundamental religious organisation and who was buried yesterday, was recently made head of a number of gangs — URP gangs, drug blocks and other bodies between Carenage and Morvant. This did not go down well with some opposing gangs. An associate of Charles, who has been identified as his "right hand man" and a gunman, issued threats to kill people whom he identified by name. Police went to his home, but found no one. The gunman has since gone into hiding.
