Pennywise man’s family prays for his safe release

Relatives of kidnapped businessman Dayne Paladee are confident that he will be released soon, and his parents, who are staunch Sai Baba devotees, have been holding round-the-clock prayer meetings at their Tunapuna home with friends and relatives.

The 36-year-old Paladee, who is the manager of the Grand Bazaar branch of Pennywise Cosmetics Store, was snatched by three men from his car at Monte Grande, Tunapuna, on Wednesday night. Relatives yesterday said that the front page photo in yesterday’s Newsday was not that of the kidnap victim Dayne. The photo was that of his brother, Steve.

A $3 million ransom was demanded soon after Dayne’s kidnapping.

A total of 44 persons have been kidnapped for ransom this year.

Relatives of kidnap victim Vanessa Sookhai-Singh also pleaded with abductors for her safe release.

The mother of one was snatched on Monday at Frederick Settlement, Caroni.

A $2 million ransom has been demanded for her safe return. Police officers described the two kidnappings as being planned and professionally done.

They added that Paladee’s relatives were aware that they were targets of kidnappers and were advised to exercise the necessary precautions.

Yesterday, head of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, Snr Supt Leon Anthony, said officers were working round the clock on the kidnappings.
