Road collapses, two cars fall in

HEAVY RAINS and flooding at Suffolk Street, Belmont, yesterday caused a retaining wall to collapse, sending two cars hurtling into a nearby river.

According to reports, no one was injured in the incident and the owners of both vehicles were left thanking their lucky stars that they were not in their cars when the wall collapsed.

Residents said they were shocked and could not recall something like this ever happening in the area. "The situation is real bad," one man said.

A crane was subsequently brought in to extract the cars from the river. Fire officers are continuing investigations into the matter.
