Super-granny to get national award
The 73-year-old La Brea grandmother, dubbed "Super-granny" for overpowering a gunman who shot her grandson, will be on top of the world today when she receives her national award for bravery. Elise Joseph shot into the spotlight on June 27 when she fought a man who shot her grandson, Anthony, at their home. "Supergranny sat on top of him until the police arrived to arrest him. When Newsday contacted Supergranny yesterday, the elderly woman expressed shock that she was considered a recipient for such a prestigious award. Joseph said when she was contacted and told she was the recipient of a national award, she had to pinch herself to make sure she was not dreaming. "I couldn’t believe it. I did not expect that they would congraulate me so high," an elated Joseph said. Saying that she felt extremely happy and honoured, Joseph added, "When I was fighting the man I was only thinking of saving my grandson. I did not think it was such a great thing that I did." Joseph said she felt honoured and was very excited about her visit to President’s House today. "I feel very happy," she concluded.
