Ex-cop receives international award
A TRINIDAD and Tobago police officer who served her country for 41 years has won a prestigious American award. Retired Superintendent Ann Georgiana Duncan recently received the International Association of Women Police (IAWP) Dr Lois Higgins-Grote Heritage Award. Eleven years ago she received the IAWP International Scholarship and Recognition Certificate of Merit. Duncan attended her first IAWP conference in 1992. In 1997, she was appointed as the Region 14 Co-ordinator, a position she still holds today. Duncan joined the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service in 1959, performing general police duties, and going through the ranks until she retired as Superintendent in 2000. Although she has retired as a police officer, she continues to remain active by attending annual Association of Caribbean Commissioners of Police conferences. She has been a speaker at many of these conferences and has moved to promote changes, to encourage women to become leaders and mentors within their police departments.
