Girl, 10, robbed of $25,000 at gunpoint
A TEN-YEAR-OLD girl of Bryce Trace Road, Point Fortin, handed over $25,000 to a bandit who went into her home and demanded money. The girl, police said, is the daughter of a businessman and, at the time of the incident, at 11.35 am on Sunday, she was at home alone. Yesterday, police described the attack by the gunman on the girl as unprecedented. The money belonged to the girl’s father, Mc Clean Sookdeo, 41, proprietor of a chicken depot in Point Fortin. According to a police report, the girl’s parents were not at home at the time of the incident. The girl was in the livingroom, when a man barged into the house and whipped out a gun. Police said the man pointed the gun at the child, who became frightened and attempted to run, but the gunman told her to bring all the money for him. Police said the girl left the gunman in the living-room and went to another room. The bandit followed her and took a bag with cash totalling $25,000. Police said the child immediately called her father, who subsequently called the police. No arrests had been made up to late yesterday, but police told Newsday the man was a known bandit in the district. PC Gokool of the Point Fortin Police Station is investigating the incident.
