Grandmother begs killer to return baby

The mother of the woman found dead in a house at La Horquetta on Saturday afternoon is appealing to the person who murdered her daughter to bring her three-week-old grand daughter home.

Balaar Kissoon of Chaguanas said she is still in shock over the murder of her daughter Reena, 27, and is in a state of despair over her missing grand daughter.

The mystery over the missing child continued to baffle police investigators yesterday.

The baby — named Alicia — has not been seen since Friday, leading police to believe that she was snatched by the killer after he murdered her mother.

Police are treating the baby’s disappearance as a kidnapping, and they are seeking the assistance of the public in finding Alicia.

Yesterday, at Phase Six, La Horquetta, Balaar said the last time she saw her daughter was when she was eight months’ pregnant.

She said she has never seen her grand-daughter and only found out about Reena’s killing while looking at television news on Sunday night.

She travelled to La Horquetta yesterday, hoping that it was just a bad dream, but the shocking news that her daughter had been murdered and her grand daughter kidnapped was confirmed on her arrival.

"This is too much for me to bear," said a grieving Balaar as she stared at a picture of her murdered daughter.

She described her daughter as a good person who was friendly and loved by those who knew her.

She called her daughter’s killing inhumane and the kidnapping of her grand child as barbaric.

Balaar is calling on members of the public to help her find her grandchild.

"I am willing to take care of Alicia because she is my granddaughter and if that person who kidnapped her has a heart, they can return that child so that she will be able to get the love which is due to her," said Balaar.

The dead woman’s neighbours said the last time that they saw her alive was on Friday. They noted that Reena, who was a dancer at a club, entertained several male friends at her home.

An autopsy at the Forensic Science Centre yesterday revealed that the young mother’s throat was slashed and she had been chopped on the left hand and head.

Investigators are keeping an open mind in the investigation and have interviewed a soldier who has denied involvement in the killing.

Acting Insp Abraham is heading the investigation.
