Health Minister: More foreign nurses coming for health sector

MORE foreign nurses are being recruited from abroad as part of Government’s attempts to improve the health sector, according to Health Minister John Rahael during his feature address to graduating registered nurses of COSTAATT (College of Science, Technology, Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago) held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Wrightson Road, Port-of-Spain, yesterday.

He also told the graduating COSTAATT nurses of their new roles which they are expected to undertake.

"Remember that it is your responsibility," he said, "it is your choice to become a nurse and all that is said in your pledge is what you will have to uphold."

Rahael outlined a new programme in health education being offered at the University of the West Indies (UWI).

"It was in January of this year that the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the university, introduced for the very first time, in Trinidad and Tobago, a BSC nursing programme," said the minister.

"Undergraduates now benefit from a programme of study that embraces a highly theoretical approach to nursing education."

He told the nursing graduates that the country is in crucial need of their services.
