TT executives need personal aircraft
THE EDITOR: Now that we are likely to be the Secretariat for the FTAA, we need to be in constant contact with our colleagues in central and south America at a moment’s notice. The activities involving the Caribbean Court of Justice require that frequent movement of officials between the member states and the proposed expansion of our own trade and tourism thrusts; our involvement discussions in the region concerning the regional integration movement, all point to the need for the government to acquire its own executive aircraft.
It is easy to imagine the amount of money to be saved by national sporting teams moving overseas to represent Trinidad and Tobago in international tournaments. The embarrassment of having national teams stranded in foreign countries, sometimes with youngsters involved, and the sight of seeing the President of this wealthy country travelling in a commercial aircraft. Mr Prime Minister, this is surely one for your urgent cabinet agenda.
