800 lbs garbage collected in Sea Lots

Minister of Public Utilities and Environment, Pennelope Beckles was out early yesterday morning at Sea Lots to assist volunteers in the NP-sponsored International Coastal Clean-up in the Sea Lots area.

The team concentrated on the area just west of the lighthouse and with approximately 25 volunteers, the team collected more than 800 lbs (363 kg) of garbage consisting of plastics, old clothing, shoes, wrappings, glass bottles, scrap metal, electrical wire, styrofoam utensils, foil, and much more. Beckles after the clean-up remarked that the volunteers had done a good job but more regular efforts are needed by volunteer groups and also by the people themselves who should take more pride in their surroundings and that the practice of disposing waste wherever it is convenient must be stopped.

The minister was joined by CEO of the Environmental Management Authority, Dr Dave McIntosh and MP for the area, Eric Williams.
