BWIA MOVES TO ELECTRONIC TICKETING

All BWIA bookings will now generate an electronic ticket effective September 15.

This move is the first step in the airline’s efforts to meet the International Air Transport Association (IATA) mandate for the new industry standard of a paperless ticket environment by 2007, said the company in a statement.

An electronic ticket (also known as an e-ticket or ticketless travel) is a paperless electronic document used for ticketing passengers. All booking information is securely stored in BWIA’s computerised reservation system. BWIA’s Corporate Communications Manager Dionne Ligoure stated, "E-ticketing is the new industry ticketing standard and BWIA is committed to the process of transition from paper tickets."

For the customer this means stress-free ticketing, no tickets to lose and no last minute queues for tickets on departure, she said.

BWIA, by putting the requisite support systems in place, is also working feverishly to bring other key stakeholders on stream with e-ticketing, the statement said.

Paper proof of your reservation can come in three forms: (i) An email notification sent by BWIA confirming your booking made with "BWee Ticket" (ii) each passenger is entitled to a printed receipt and itinerary (iii) or you can print the summary page when you complete an Internet booking.

Except for Manchester and Suriname, e-ticketing is available throughout the BWIA network.
