CXC PASSES, ID CARDS, CELL PHONES

This man from Laventille could get you anything you wanted. Nine CXC passes, ID cards, any number of cell phones and drivers’ permits — until police caught up with him yesterday morning.

He lived at Erica Street, Eastern Main Road, Laventille until early yesterday morning when police raided his house and seized fake drivers’ permits, identification cards, CXC certificates in many subjects and cell phones.

The 35-year-old man was arrested and will appear before a Port-of-Spain Magistrate today.

Reports revealed that police officers led by Inspectors Bickram Baldeo and Wayne Mac Farlane had been watching activities at the house for some time.

They executed a search warrant at 5 o’clock yesterday morning and seized computer equipment, laminators, fake identification cards, permits, CXC certificates and cell phones.

Information is that original CXC certificates were being scanned and the names of unauthorised persons inserted on the certificates.

Individuals dealing with the man could get as many CXC passes as they wanted, and were willing to pay for without the necessity of writing examinations. The fake drivers’ permits and ID cards were also being issued by the man in response to requests of "clients."

Individuals who bought the fraudulent documents are expected to be questioned by the police.

Fraud squad officers told Newsday that many of these fraudulent documents are circulating the country.

They said that people are using the documents to get jobs and others were using the fake ID cards and permits to conceal their true identity.

Police believe that the cell phones seized were stolen.
