Panday’s symbol exclusionary
THE EDITOR: Please allow me to point out that the election symbol of the Panday-led slate, Team Patriots that is represented by the namaste clasp hand is not only typically but exclusionary Hindu. It would appear to be also Panday impregnated by his unique trade mark salute. Is this a further manifestation of the outrageous claim that the UNC is Panday’s baby — his personal property — his Sita? Our Moslem (who use open hands in their dua) and Presbyterian sisters and brothers who make up an articulate and assertive part of the UNC mass membership should find this symbol unnecessarily insensitive and exclusionary. Team Patriots should have selected a secular symbol. If not it should have chosen a symbol that does not infringe and violate but pay homage to the cultural and religious diversity of the UNC membership. LALO MANOHAR Caroni
