PLIPDECO launches Claude Clarke Bursary
The Couva/Point Lisas Chamber of Commerce has launched the Claude Clarke Bursary, which would be tenable at the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) Point Lisas Campus. The Chamber proposes to raise an initial capital sum of at least $100,000 to be set up in a trust, the earnings of which would then be used to pay the Bursary to eligible students. It would assist in defraying the expenses of their tertiary education, said a statement from the company.
The Bursary has been established in memory of Claude Clarke, the brainchild behind the Couva/Point Lisas Chamber of Commerce and one of its founding members. He served as the first president of the Chamber for five years, and is remembered for his favourite saying, “Failure is not an option.” Clarke was also a founding member of the Rotary Club of Couva. Through his passion and commitment, he made a significant contribution to the development of the Couva/Point Lisas area and to Trinidad and Tobago. In keeping with PLIPDECO’s practice of supporting initiatives in the surrounding community, the company has donated the sum of $5,000 towards this worthwhile educational cause.
