Two charged with Koury’s murder
Late yesterday evening, Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Geoffrey Henderson, gave instructions for two men to be charged with the murder and kidnapping of Dr Eddie Koury. The DPP, who spent several hours in discussion with police officers probing the kidnapping and murder of Koury, gave the instructions at 5 pm yesterday. A 25-year-old man with addresses in Tobago and London, and a 21-year-old man of Tunapuna, are to be charged with murder and two counts of kidnapping. The 25-year-old man who fled to St Vincent after the murder of Koury was arrested by police in that country on Saturday, and was escorted back to Trinidad late Saturday night. He was handed over to acting Insp Johnny Abraham. The three other men detained for Koury’s murder were charged last night with firearm offences. Four of the five people charged were held at a D’Abadie house mere hours after Koury was snatched. They have been in custody since last Wednesday. A Laventille woman who worked closely with Koury, and her husband, a retired police officer, were up to late last night still being quizzed about the murder. The DPP will decide their fate today. All five charged last night will appear before an Arima magistrate today at 9 am.
