Murder toll keeps climbing


Three murders occurred within the past 24 hours, bringing the murder rate to 281 in the 251 days of 2005. At approximately 7 am yesterday, the body of Candace Ceberro, 22, of El Dorado Road, Tunapuna, was found with multiple stab wounds to the face and upper torso. A resident of Belgrove Estate Royal Road, Maracas, St Joseph, stumbled upon the nude body. The body was found under a tree with a torn blouse beside it.


Maracas police found the remnants of clothing and a handbag under a tree further down the Maracas Royal Road.


Meanwhile, at 10 am, Eric Pierre and his family were eating a late brunch when a masked gunman stormed their Orange Flats house in Arima. Pierre, 20, was shot once in the chest, and died on the spot. A 30-year-old Beetham Estate man was also found murdered at Gardenia Street, Red Hills, Morvant.


According to police reports, two men were seen chasing another man. Shortly after, loud explosions were heard. When residents checked, they found the body of the deceased lying on the ground.


The body bore several gunshot wounds.


He has since been identified as Nicholas Clarke. Supt Trim, Insp Hilare, Cpl Vidal, and other officers visited the scene. No suspects have been held. The bodies were taken to the Forensic Science Centre where the autopsies will be performed today.


Maracas police, Morvant police, and Arima police are continuing investigations.
