Wild animals on the buses
THE EDITOR: Please permit me a space in your newspaper to express my concern of the deplorable bus services provided in Trinidad and Tobago. I wish to inform you that I travel from San Fernando to Port-of-Spain five days a week and every consecutive day I am faced with boredom due to the lengthy amount of time to wait for the bus. I assure it is not easy, especially for students to attain early arrival for school before seven in the morning. Another factor which is immensely disturbing is the disgusting behaviour of the passengers who on a regular basis inconsiderately "break" the queue while others are waiting patiently. In addition on numerous platforms lines are not noticeable. It seems to me that some passengers would be better characterised as a stampede of unruly rhinoceroses rather than human beings. I am positive that many people would agree with me when I state that the surroundings in City Gate are not even fit for a stray dog to roam around. Both the site and stench remind me of the Beetham Gardens. As for the buses to Chaguaramas from City Gate, a very similar situation. The interior and exterior of the buses are simply not pleasing to the eye. The seat coverings are torn apart and dirty looking. As a concerned citizen of this country I demand that the Government pay special attention to the bus services provided. I believe that this country is at a financially stable situation and should be able to allocate more money to provide new buses and reconstruct or redesign the old buses. I recommend that the proper authorities ensure better and proper seating accommodations since long hours are spent waiting for the buses. The security could be more friendly and trained to be more service oriented. They should also take the initiative to keep the lines in order. On a last note, I would like to know, "has anyone heard of garbage bins or garbage disposals." If you have not, you know now. Try using them. KAREL ALLEN San Fernando
