San Fernando pressure!
THE EDITOR: As a burgess of San Fernando, I feel compelled to write this letter to highlight a few disturbing matters. Since the reopening of school on September 5, 2005, someone in their wisdom, decided to block off to vehicular traffic, that part of Harris Street which houses the Magistrates’ Court. There are six schools in that area: three primary, one secondary and two kindergartens. As a result of this detour, all vehicular traffic has to either proceed up Lord Street or across Harris Promenade. This results in mass confusion between the hours of 7 am and 9 am and 2.15 pm to 4.30 pm. If one ventures to drive across Harris Promenade in front of Police Headquarters, one literally has to squeeze one’s vehicle through the street which has been "narrowed" as a result of vehicles being double-parked in front of Police Headquarters (for whatever reason). In addition, many derelict vehicles are almost spilling over onto Harris Street, adding to the congestion, as well as creating a major "junk yard" on Harris Promenade. People — Harris Promenade! If one decides to use the Lord Street route, it could take one 25 to 30 minutes to get to the top of this street — this is after being greeted by a resident vagrant who has set up his/her makeshift dwelling adjacent to the Magistrates’ Court. Eventually, after getting to the top of Lord Street, another nightmare surfaces: turning onto Harris Promenade! Because remember, the authorities in their wisdom again, narrowed that street, relegating it to single lane traffic. Miraculously, one gets to work, school or to drop off one’s children. An exercise which has to be repeated in the afternoon! My next peeve is the construction of massive business places in the heart of residential areas of the city of San Fernando, which is choking the lives out of residents. For some of us, it is: no more daylight, no more fresh air, no more privacy! Thank you Town and Country. Great job! I wonder if any of you at that department is affected by this. I doubt. The only things that work effectively are the wreckers. Boy, are they efficient! From as early as 7.50 am, the wreckers begin their reign of terror on the burgesses. Somebody please ... help us! The traffic is horrendous! Our streets are congested and filthy! The vagrants are plentiful! Help! C CLIFFORD San Fernando
