Parents, your children are watching
THE EDITOR: Parents are always telling children do as I say but don’t do as I do. Are they not aware of the phrase that states "actions speak louder than words." The best way to teach children what you want them to learn is by example. Parents are always saying "don’t smoke, don’t curse, and choose the right friends," yet they seem to be doing the exact opposite. Not because they are older or more experienced gives them the right to do as they please. This is one of the reasons why I believe that parents are totally responsible for their children’s actions. Like every other individual, children adapt and respond to their environment. Therefore if children are taught as well as shown proper morals and values by their parents, they would eventually adapt. The responsibility however of being a parent is no easy one. Although children are taught and shown the values of life they sometimes stray. Parents however need to be patient and understanding. Even I have strayed at times, but my mother was always there to straighten and place be back on the right track and in the end that is what really counts. Parents need to remember that they have the nation’s future in their possessions and the simple decisions they make can influence what the future holds. To those parents who do a good job, hold strong to what is right because in the end there will be no regrets. To those parents who have abandoned or given up on their children, it is never too late to undo what you have done. CHARICE ALVES Enterprise
