Koury murder inquiry delayed
Preliminary inquiry into the murder of Dr Eddie Koury was postponed yesterday in the Tunapuna Magistrates’ First Court. Appearing before Magistrate Joanne Connor were murder accused Sean James, 21, of Kelly Street, Tunapuna, and 25-year-old Kaleb Neville Donaldson of Rockely Vale, Tobago. Last week, both men were charged at the Tunapuna Magistrates’ Court with the murder of Dr Eddie Koury in Macoya on September 23. Vashist Maharaj, the attorney representing Donaldson, told Connor he was ready to proceed with the matter, but he said he was told by prosecutor Cpl Alexander that the State had not yet appointed a State attorney for the matter. The magistrate asked James, who was unrepresented, if he wanted to apply for legal aid. James responded that he was advised by someone to apply to a judge in chambers for bail. Connor told James that he was not allowed to do so since he is facing a capital offence and could not get bail. Connor then told James to seek legal aid, and he agreed to do so. The matter was adjourned to October 17.
