TTEC puts up 3,113 street lights
THE Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission has installed some 3,113 street lights throughout Trinidad and Tobago during the past year. The disclosure was made in the House of Representatives on Wednesday by Minister of Public Utilities and the Environment, Pennelope Beckles, during her contribution to the Budget debate. Of the lights installed, 283 were in Tobago West and 147 in Tobago East. Some of the areas that benefited in Trinidad were Caroni Central, with 364; Caroni East, 161; Chaguanas, 403; Couva North, 69; Couva South, 50; Diego Martin West, 357. There were also 57 rural projects. TTEC also completed 91 electrification projects — 54 in Trinidad and 37 in Tobago. Beckles said she provided the figures because she expected her colleagues to suggest that the Government was not doing its work in some constituencies. She also disclosed that in 2005-06, TTEC will undertake the completion of 150 electrification projects, exclusive of the 57 rural projects. Additionally, WASA will complete more than 400 water projects which will take up approximately 200 metres of pipeline, she said.
