Work starts on Wrightson Road

Work started Friday night on Wrightson Road. The first thing that is being done is to  prepare certain areas of the surface for re-sheeting. This aspect of the repair work started on Friday creating a bit of inconvenience to motorists, but there was not a total close down of the road as most motorist thought. However, today certain sections of the west bound lane will be close with the commencement of actual paving work. Minister of Works Colm Imbert, said yesterday that the road repair project would take about three weeks, but explained that much work as possible would be done at night to avoid a chaotic traffic situation. Certain aspects of the work such as paving will have to be done during the day.

The Minister explained that repairs involved  stripping certain sections of the road surface using milling equipment. This he added, will be done mostly at night. On Friday night work started from Colville Street and ended just before John Donaldson Technical School. On Saturday night the work was expected to continue up to the area of  National Flour Mills. The Minister indicated that he was well aware of the traffic confusion if Wrightson Road is completely closed off for any long period of time during the day, especially Monday to Friday, hence the reason he has restricted work during the day.
