Two suspects dead in shootout with cops


Two men are confirmed dead after a shootout between police and suspected bandits at Balbadee Hill, Dibe, yesterday.


Dead are Jamille Alexander, 20, alias Sneel, and Anthony Ellis, alias Fly, who were shot dead during an exercise conducted by Inter-Agency Task Force and Western Division police yesterday.


The two were reportedly taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where they were pronounced dead on arrival. One man escaped and he is considered armed and dangerous.


According to reports, the officers were checking out criminal activity in the area and, on approaching Upper Lutchman Drive, suspects in the area opened fire in all directions. The officers returned fire. Two suspects fell to the ground after being shot by the officers, while one man armed with a firearm escaped on foot.


A search was conducted at the scene and a bag with camouflage clothing, marijuana, binoculars and firearms was found.


The exercise was headed by Supt Millington, Snr Supt Roach and ASP Cadet. Area residents told Newsday they were shocked at the shootout and fear for their lives.
