AG: State recovers ‘corrupt’ $27M
Attorney General John Jeremie yesterday said the State had recovered $27 million from corruption cases over the past year. Speaking in the Senate Budget debate yesterday, Jeremie said, "Our funds under management, pending the outcome of the relevant court proceedings in various parts of the world has grown from $0 to $27 million at this point." He said the anti-corruption drive has been doing well in eradicating public sector corruption. Jeremie said there has been a change in philosophy which has been defined by the new energy culture which is defined by respect for the process of transparency and good governance. Jeremie admitted that TT was in the middle of a crime wave of unprecedented proportions, but he said the Government was committed to ensuring that the people of Trinidad and Tobago had the best judicial system.
