Six quick ways to ease Diego traffic congestion
THE EDITOR: I would like to make the following suggestions to the Honourable Minister, Mr Colm Imbert to ease the flow of traffic out of Diego Martin and its environs: (1) All heavy equipment backhoes/container vehicles etc should not be allowed to traverse the roads in the area under review during the hours of 6 - 8 am. (2) All garbage trucks must carry out their relevant daily duties (Monday-Friday) before 6 am or after 8 am; they must be out of the area between the hours of 6 - 8 am. (3) Please repair all potholes in these areas on a timely basis. (4) Do not place police officers where traffic lights are working or where we (the motorists) have an understanding among ourselves to let each other merge into the main roads. (5) Position police officers at all intersections coming out of the area where the lane jumpers cause unnecessary problems to the flow of traffic and pull them aside, check licence, tyres, chassis and engine numbers etc and if all is correct at least they would have paid the penalty of at least 15 minutes; and instruct the police officers to take his "cool time" about it, so to speak. The officers would not be able to give out tickets because he would not be capable of carrying the quantity of ticket books that would be necessary. (6) Carry out a survey in the areas under review and find out where ‘residents’ place of work is located, if it is an established company in the city, let the ministry approach the respective companies and let us start "staggering" working hours, ie service oriented persons. 7 am to 3 pm - service persons 9 am to 5 pm - Administrative persons 8 am to 4 pm - Sales persons Executive personnel - as per usual Gary Fitzwilliam Diego Martin
