Central businessman snatched

A $5 million ransom has been demanded for 30-year-old businessman Nigel Dindial, who was snatched while liming at All Sportz Billiards at John Street, Montrose, early yesterday.

The ransom demand was made only hours after the kidnapping.

Dindial, the owner of Dindial’s Transport at McBean Village, Couva, was liming with friends at the bar at 2 am, when three men armed with guns entered and ordered Dindial into a waiting Nissan B-15. Eyewitnesses contacted the Chaguanas police and a party of officers went to the scene.

A description of the kidnappers and the vehicle used to abduct Dindial was given to the police. Officers of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad were contacted and also went to the scene. Police investigators told Newsday that they are working on leads and expect to make an arrest shortly.

When Newsday visited the kidnapped man’s home in Lange Park, Chaguanas, relatives refused to be interviewed. They remained in their home awaiting word from the kidnappers.

Newsday learnt that Dindial’s relatives are negotiating with the kidnappers to have the ransom lowered in a bid to have him released. Dindial is the 49th person to be kidnapped this year. Sgt Joseph Isaac, acting Cpl Benjamin, and PCs Sheppard, Ramsook and Ramlakhan are heading investigations into the incident.
