Cop quizzed in Central kidnap


A POLICE officer suspected of being involved in the kidnapping and robbery of a taxi driver in Central Trinidad, was among 20 persons arrested yesterday during a police exercise in Central yesterday.


The police constable, 31, of Laventille Road, Laventille, was arrested while on duty at a police station in Central Trinidad.


Up to late yesterday, the police constable was being interrogated by officers of the Chaguanas Criminal Investigations Department in connection with the kidnap/robbery.


A police report stated that the policeman is being investigated regarding his alleged involvement with a 35-year-old taxi driver of Madras Road, Cunupia, three weeks ago.


The report stated that the taxi driver who plied the Chin Chin Road/Cunupia route was kidnapped and robbed of cash and jewelry.


The policeman, the report stated, is expected to be placed on an ID parade at the Chaguanas CID office today.


Meanwhile, police arrested a 35-year-old man of Enterprise Street, Enterprise, as he was about to tender seven US$100 bills at a businessplace in Chaguanas.


The report stated that the owner of the businessplace detected the fake US bills and immediately contacted E999. Police officers, the report stated, responded within minutes.


They arrested the man and took him to the Chaguanas CID for questioning.


Snr Supt Rattan Singh, Insp Stephen Ramsubhag, Sgt Hayden Mc Kenzie, Cpls Dexter Alexander, Mitchell Mohan and PCs Devon Ollivere, Marlon Thomas and Tony Ishmael, conducted the exercise.
